Are you up for a trip into historical mythology on this beautiful, sunny Whitsun weekend? I'll take you on a journey through ancient Mesopotamia and the creation myth of Enuma Elish. This is the story of Marduk, the city god of Babylon, who fought against the mother goddess Tiamat and created the world and subsequently humanity from her. The clay tablets were discovered during excavations in the 18th century, for example, in Nineveh; but Enuma Elish never completely disappeared. Part of the story has survived in a widely known text: Genesis. Small correction: Tiamat's military leader is called Kingu, not Kinshu. She talks about Enuma Elish in the episode "The Hebrew Bible in Its Ancient Near Eastern Setting: Genesis 1-4 in Context": • Lecture 3. The Hebrew Bible in Its Ancient... In German, I recommend the podcast "Die Bibel in ihrer Welt" (The Bible in Its World) by Tim Weinheimer.
