If its the middle of the night, and you have awoken, its okay for you to rest. Being in a meditative state and not necessarily asleep is still much more restorative than panicking. If you are awake, and you feel you should be asleep, just lay and find some comfort. This will help preserve you. You'd be surprised how much you can restore yourself without being completely asleep. Therefore, there is no reason to panic or be anxious about your lack of sleep. Just be still, maintain presence or fly away into some lovely trains of thought. As long as you are calming yourself and slowing your nervous system down.
