#highgatecemetery #haunted #paranormal Highgate Cemetery in London, England; is the final resting place for approximately 170,000 deceased people. The cemetery’s tombs and buildings are constructed in an imposing Victorian Gothic style and during the mid- to late 1800s it was a highly sought-after burial ground. After World War II, the cemetery became neglected and turned into an overgrown wilderness – the ground opened in places from crumbling masonry, which revealed long sealed crypts, these offered the chance for the unsuspecting living to join forever with the mouldered dead, if they had the misfortune of falling through one. In the late 1960s rumours began to spread of undead beings roaming the cemetery at night, and indeed going abroad in search of victims. Scores of ‘vampire hunters’ began to converge on the graveyard in the dead of night. Tombs were broken open and bodies were mutilated with wooden stakes driven into their chests. Together we explore not only the history of Highgate Cemetery, but also reports of various hauntings over the decades.
