Fun fact of the day: The word vampire actually has a Slavic origin. The English “vampire” entered Western Europe in the early 1700s from the German “Vampir”. German got it from South Slavic languages (most likely Serbian), where the undead blood-drinker was already part of folklore. Because the earliest written European reports about vampires came from Serbia and nearby regions, this Slavic origin is considered the strongest explanation. So if you ever see a spooky man dressed in all black roaming the streets at night, almost as if he is looking for something, it could just be a Serbian man in an Adidas tracksuit who has had too much rakia and can’t find his way home!! 🧛‍♂🥤
