Fun fact of the day: Did you know that duct tape was invented in 1943 to assist American soldiers in combat during WWII? The key person behind the invention was Vesta Stoudt, a factory worker who manufactured ammunition boxes!! She noticed that there was an issue with the current ammo boxes, they were sealed with paper tape and wax, which made them difficult to open quickly in combat. As a solution, Vesta proposed using a strong, waterproof cloth tape instead. The supervisors at the Green River Ordnance Plant were not particularly impressed with the idea and simply brushed it off. However, Vesta was confident in her idea, so instead of dropping it, she went around the chain of command and wrote directly to Franklin D. Roosevelt!! Roosevelt approved the idea and sent it to the War Production Board, who wrote back to Stoudt: "The Ordnance Department has not only pressed this idea... but has now informed us that the change you have recommended has been approved, with the comment that the idea is of exceptional merit." The Revolite Corporation was tasked with creating the product, and Miss Stoudt received the Chicago Tribune's War Worker Award for her idea!! She is officially credited by Johnson & Johnson (the parent company of Revolite Corporation at the time) for the invention of duct tape!!
