This video is aimed to help soothe the insecurities we can have about our appearance. In 2023, beauty standards are getting pretty out of control and I feel that they’ve gotten even worse with the rise and regular use of beauty filters and face tuning. I want to stress that I don't think it's right to shame the use of these kinds of things, if they make you feel confident when you are online then that's totally okay. It's just important to remember that it's not a true representation of who you are, and that your value goes beyond your appearance. I want to share the advice and support that I’ve picked up over the years as there have been times that I have really disliked the way I look, and the philosophies that I share here have really helped me to accept myself and to enjoy my life for what it is. I truly do hope that it helps you too. In this video I will be normalising and reassuring you about your face, with face touching and inspecting your appearance. I will then guide you through a meditation for self-acceptance that stems from a place of gratitude. From there I run through a sensory mindfulness exercise that includes ear-to-ear whispering, eye contact practice, counting your lashes, visualisations, and more. I then go into a discussion of how we behave online. It's normal to want to only what we want to share, and hide the things we don’t. This leads to sharing a very curated version of ourselves, from our image to our personality and behaviours. Everybody does this to some extent. Online is not real life and shouldn’t be treated as such. Treat your “online self” like an avatar, and remember that it’s not the real you, just like it’s not the real version of others. You're multi-faceted. As evidence of this, at the end of the video, I remove the skin blurring filter on my face to remind you that the version of me that you’re seeing isn’t the true, real life me (and neither is the textured skinned version if me!)
