In this video, I break from my normal style of video long enough to offer a few words of advice to a soon-to-be high school or college graduate. Like many young people who are getting close to the point of having to leave behind the familiarity and safety of school, and enter what is arguably the toughest job market in eight decades, this subscriber to my channel was looking for insight when he sent me a message laced with trepidation concerning what happens after graduation. I don't really know anything about the young man or his background so I will have to assume that he is typical of most graduating from college. In his well worded message, he wanted to know some of the things that I know or understand now that I wished I'd known at twenty-four. Like many people my age, I could probably write a book on such a vast topic. There is almost an infinite array of helpful knowledge that would help a person progress through life in a way that leaves the least amount of regrets, but, all that stuff is useless without the basics of transitioning from the relative comforts of school to the harsh realities of being a responsible adult. So that is my focus of this video and I hope it doesn't come across as harsh sounding. This video isn't for the fortunate few that have a great job waiting for them upon graduation, but more for the majority that don't. This video deals with what they need to do in order to keep from sliding down that muddy hill of despair and laziness that can be so steep that they will have to eventually give up altogether, or claw their way out only after they have damaged relationships and lost their self-worth. So this video is about laying a solid foundation that a young person can build their life upon. Get this part right before you worry about the rest because the rest may never materialize unless you do.
