ASMR sensations are caused by auditory, visual, tactile or cognitive stimuli. The nature of the ASMR phenomenon is still unclear and has no scientific explanation. According to Tom Stafford, a lecturer at the University of Sheffield, “it is quite possible that this phenomenon really exists, but by its nature it is difficult to study.” However, despite the little-known phenomenon in scientific circles, many people watch large amounts of ASMR content on YouTube every day, where a large and stable community of people producing and consuming ASMR content has formed and continues to grow over the past few years.
