This is the 3rd video in my relationship workshop, The Keys To A Healthy Relationship. In this video I am going to discuss the 3rd Key which is The Relationship Dance. In our relationships we engage in repetitive patterns of communications, set pieces of interactions or dances. These dances can be healthy or we can be drawn into recreating unhealthy interactions or dances from the past, because they are familiar and so feel safe, even if they don’t feel particularly good and they result in us not getting our needs met. In this video I will describe two of the most common dances or patterns of communications that I see in my clinic. I will also share some techniques for identifying your particular relationship dance so that you can step back, start to make some changes and improve the quality and experience of your relationship. Change will happen most quickly if both you are your partner are involved in this process, however, even if one of you makes a change, the dance will also change, probably for the better, because no one likes to dance on their own. If you have any questions then please post your comments below and I will do my best to help. I feel at ease being a therapist, I feel I can empathise with people’s distress and discomfort but don’t feel overwhelmed by it, I can understand their problem and know how to help, it has always just felt like what I should be doing.
