For today's Advent Calendar entry, let's dig a little into the history of Christmas. Many Christian celebrations were fixed in antiquity and tied to certain events in the solar year. However, a slight inaccuracy in the Julian calendar means that over millennia, these dates started to shift - something still evident in the different dates for Christmas, Epiphany and Easter between Western and some Orthodox churches. Apart from that, the beginning and end of Christmas season per se has seen variations over the centuries too. The book is called "12000 Jahre Weihnachten. Ursprünge eines Fests" by Gerald Huber, unfortunately only available in German (but definitely one to check out if you're into a mix of linguistics, history, and Bavarian traditions). *** You can support my channel via: Paypal Me - paypal.com/paypalme/melangeasmr Ko-Fi - ko-fi.com/melangeasmr
