Shakchunni is a Bengali female spirit—once a married woman—recognized by her white shankha bangles and quiet, lingering presence. She is domestic even in death: fond of kitchens, mirrors, oil lamps, and especially fish, the comfort food she still craves and smells out at night. Curious, vain, and soft-spoken, she enjoys gossip, adornment, and being admired, often approaching humans gently rather than violently.
