#sydney #witch #art Being a witch in mid century Sydney, Australia was a lot better than being a witch in 17th century England – still it presented a lot of problems for Rosaleen ‘Roie’ Norton. Rosaleen, not only being a witch, was an artist, and the police were constantly raiding her exhibitions and charging her with obscenity. Plus many of the public confused her pagan witchcraft with being a Satanist, which she certainly was not. Roie was wonderfully eccentric and adored animals – she spent most of her life in King’s Cross, the red light district of Sydney.
