Fun fact of the day: Before modern tape measures, people used cloth measuring tapes, which could stretch and become less accurate over time. In 1829, English metalworker James Chesterman invented the first retractable steel tape measure, and in 1868, an American inventor Alvin J. Fellows improved the spring-loaded design, giving us the compact, snap-back tool we still use today!!
