Happy second advent sunday! Time to light another candle on our wreath 🕯🕯 Today we're looking at a historical map of the North Pole. Even before peope thought that Santa has his workshop there, some fantastical ideas were going around. Around 1600, Gerald Mercator created this detailed map of a strange polar landscape: free of ice, surrounded by four islands and with a floating magnetic rock at the centre... The book is by Kevin J. Brown and called "A Journey Back in Time Through Maps" (German translation: "Ansichten der Welt. Kartografische Reisen durch die Zeit") The Christmas book is by Elisabeth Auersperg-Breunner and simply called "Weihnachtszeit". *** You can support my channel via: Paypal Me - melangeasmr Ko-Fi - melangeasmr
