Hello my friends! This video is showcasing one of my all-time favorite techniques for reducing anxiety and stress: Progressive Muscle Relaxation! This technique has been clinically shown to help improve anxiety, stress, insomnia, and even other health measures like blood pressure! I'll start off by showing you the basics, then explain the science behind this technique, and finally, we'll practice another round of PMR together starting from our feet and working all the way up to the top of our heads. As always, my videos are not intended to be therapy. They are for entertainment/relaxation purposes only. Although I am a licensed mental health counselor and the techniques used in this video are real empirically validated techniques, it is important to acknowledge the limitations of a platform like YouTube. Therapy inherently requires the ability to have a back-and-forth conversation between therapist and client. If you feel you are struggling with your mental health, please reach out to your primary care provider or if you want to seek out a therapist, please check out the link to Psychology Today's Find a Therapist tool. To listen while using other apps, switch the player to Picture-in-Picture (PiP) during playback — it keeps playing in a small floating window (the screen stays on).
To listen with the screen fully off, in-browser playback stops by YouTube's design. Open the video in the YouTube app to keep listening where background playback is supported (e.g. with YouTube Premium).
