Spooky season is upon us, so let's have a look at the devil himself. There is a beautiful French book I picked up during my last stay in Paris that gives a great overview on how the figure of the devil came to be. We're going from ancient influences, to local legends from the Middle Ages, to the writings of Dante, Milton and Goethe. And of course, we can't end this without a little music. I hope you'll enjoy it! Admittedly, this is a week where I wish there'd been a little more time to prepare since the topic really does fascinate me. Alas, somehow the weeks seem to be getting busier all the time. Books: Alix Paré. Diable: De l'Apocalypse à l'enfer de Dante. Chêne. (I'm not seeing an English translation, but there is a publication by the same author on Gustav Doré whose work on Milton you're probably familiar with.) Wieland Schmied. Harenberg Museum der Malerei. Nail polish: Catrice 20 Black to the Routes *** Audio only version is available on various podcast platforms.
