It's another late night as you wander the halls of Arkham Sanitarium hoping to walk off the frustrating restlessness that was keeping you awake back in your room. It then dawns on you that it's been quite some time since you last visited with Grandpa. So you meander over to his room and drop in unexpectedly, hoping he'll spin some yarn about the good old days. That's when you find him fiddling with an old vintage radio that makes quite the pleasant, soothing, sleepy white noise... ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response. It's a non-scientific word that an everyday person came up with to describe the feeling characterized as a pleasurable tingling sensation felt in the head, scalp, back and other regions of the body in response to visual, auditory, tactile, olfactory, and/or cognitive stimuli, such as crinkling bags, hand movements, whispering, personal attention or watching someone perform a task. It's like goosebumps but much more pleasant and without the uncomfortable chills. ASMR videos are meant to intentionally induce this sensation in the viewer, often referred to as "tingles", but the videos also serve to provide a relaxing, calming and soothing experience for the viewer. Many people who do not experience ASMR still enjoy the videos for their calming and sleepy effect.
